Description

A beautiful and very impressive large pair of French two-light wall appliques, Louis XVI style.
Each with backplate in the form of tasselled drapery swags mounted with entwined oak branches, a ribbon-tied bow-knot and two horn and centrally issuing two scrolled hunting-horn-form candle arms with fluted drip-pans.
Each wall light is stamped 'BM' to the reverse.
With the ribbon-tied in the upper section.
Place of origin- France
Period- late 19th c.

The stamp can suggests that the wall lights are probably featured to the bronze master model and that these wall-lights were previously cast by Bronzier Millet (Maison Millet).  This model was subsequently produced by Henri Vian who could have conceivably bought the master model from one of the four dispersal sales of Millet's stock, following Théodore Millet's death in 1905.
